For diplacusis

When music sounds out of tune between your ears

Harmonic Recovery is a music player and pitch-practice app for people whose ears hear the same note at different pitches. Practice with your own songs, measure the mismatch in cents, and see whether it's changing.

Does this sound familiar?

Your ears agree on the song, but not on the pitch

Music sounds wrong

Songs you know by heart sound sour, doubled or detuned, while speech sounds mostly fine.

One ear is sharp or flat

A note sounds higher in one ear than the other. Cover an ear and the music changes.

It started with a hearing change

Often after sudden hearing loss, with Ménière's disease, or hearing loss in one ear.

It's called diplacusis. Learn what it is and what causes it →

See it in 22 seconds

One note, two pitches

The app plays your music clearly in your affected ear while the same music fades in and out in your other ear, as a pitch hint. It measures your mismatch, drills your ear, and tracks your practice.

How it works

Measure. Listen. See what changes.

  1. Measure the mismatch

A pitch-matching check shows how far apart your ears hear a note, in cents, at six frequencies. About 6 minutes, after a one-time headphone setup.

  2. Listen with a pitch hint

Your own songs play clearly in your affected ear while the same music fades in and out in your other ear, a reference for the right pitch.

  3. See whether it changes

Repeat the check every week or two. A chart shows your mismatch over time, and only calls it a change when it beats your normal variation.

Built for real life

Practice that fits into your day

  • Your own music. Add MP3s, or on iPhone, songs from your library.
  • Six training levels, from a strong hint to brief glimpses, with suggestions based on your own checks.
  • 3-minute pitch drills: higher or lower? The difficulty adapts to your answers.
  • A daily goal and streaks, a 12-week calendar and a daily "How does music sound today?" check-in.
  • Listening mode for simply enjoying music with your own left/right balance.
  • Your results stay on your phone. No account and no ads.

Honest about the evidence

Plausible, not yet proven

Adult pitch hearing can recalibrate against a trusted reference, and pitch hearing improves with practice. But no study has tested this method for diplacusis yet. That's why the app measures instead of assuming: you'll see whether your mismatch changes.

Why it exists

Made by someone who hears it too

I have diplacusis. I built Harmonic Recovery so I could practice with music and measure whether anything changes, and so others with it could too.
